“The Cycle” – More Than Shelter

More Than Shelter – The essentials for human survival are food, water, and shelter. These needs take precedence over all the others. Virginia MOCA continues our investigations of basic human needs with the new exhibition More Than Shelter.

“The Cycle” is a mixture of photographic prints and transcribed audio recordings derived from interviews I conducted over a period of months. This project offers to help raise the voice of an unseen and forgotten subset of people: the homeless community.

The nuanced challenges that come with homelessness deprive these people of sharing their story and their ability to connect with others. When connection is lost the compassion to understand your story is lost. When your story is lost, you become invisible. I bring forward a chance to remove barriers see and remember the homeless community to understand the complexities of their journeys.
